Laguna Beach Sawdust Festival 2009

As soon as my daughter gets here, we are off to the Laguna Beach Sawdust Festival. I'm hoping to get some good photos, but every year it seems like more and more artists have photo restrictions. Everyone is so afraid of being copied. I can see both sides of that coin. Photos are also great publicity for your booth. And it makes a poor impression to be yelling at your potential customers that you don't want them taking a snapshot.

It's a very humid day. At least we are not having the sweltering heat of a few weeks ago.

They need to have a sign clearly stating NO PHOTOS, don't you think or do they?

At our street fair we had a very nasty vendor that shouted at people to shut their camera's off. Instead it garnered him a lot of negative reactions of some who posted on their blogs about him. He wasn't invited back to the street fair. Not like he had work that wasn't being done already. Yes he made the work but it was formulaic work and a variation on a theme, but NOT original.

Some booths have signs, some do not. Sometimes I'll take a photo only to find the sign later. They can be at any level or tucked around corners or only visible from one side of the booth. At least I didn't get yelled at this year. One sign I saw several times said, "NO photographs. And that means you sneaky people on cellphones too."
