Freeform Crochet Inspiration

Last night I decided to search for freeform crochet on Pinterest and was so inspired that even though it was late in the day, I unburied a hook, grabbed some yarn, and started crocheting. Here is what it looks like so far:

Today I decided to add some puff stitches but I needed to review how, so I found a tutorial here: http://mymerrymessylife.com/2012/06/puff-stitch-tutorial-free-crochet-tutorial.html One of the hardest things about crochet is remembering all the stitches.

If you are searching Pinterest for inspiration, type in freestyle crochet, freeform crochet or scrumbles.
And that should bring up pages and pages of ideas.

Since this yarn was thinner, I pulled up one more set of loops.

After not a cloud in the sky yesterday, I woke up to this amazing view.

Fun Hat

I just finished this fun crocheted hat that has two nozzles to put your pony tails or braids through. It's a great hat for parades, clowning, drum circles, Burning Man or those cool nights of fire spinning on the beach. I made a big floppy daisy to put right on the top. I'm going to list it on Etsy and probably on Yardsellr. It's going to rain soon so I'm glad I got the photos done. I can't wait to make a hat like this for myself. I love the bullion knots on it.

Freeform Crocheted Scarf

At the knitting guild meeting I started working like crazy on a crocheted freestyle scarf. It's light pink, moss green and black and the yarn is three different textures. I was hoping to get it listed on Zibbet today but my hands got fatigued so I had to take a break. Instead I went to see the new Harry Potter movie. I'm not sure if I was more excited about the movie or the fact that I got to sit inside an air conditioned building for 2 1/2 hours.

Etsy announced today that chat is ending forever on Friday.  As a response, regular chatters are leaving for Zibbet.  Some are just opening another shop and still keeping their Etsy shop, but I've met about a dozen that are done with Etsy for good. It was like the straw that broke the camel's back after all the other Etsy changes, like getting rid of alchemy.

I just hope I don't get addicted to another chatroom. I don't really have time for that. And usually chat just depresses me.

The Ugly Side of Crafts

One of the downsides of becoming better known as an artist is sometimes people get jealous or rankled. So I woke up to an email from a disgruntled artist who swears I saw one of his hats and now make hats just like his.  First off his designs are very complicated so there is no way I could just look at it on youtube and then duplicate it. I may be good but I'm not that good.  I saw a concept and ran with it.  You can't trademark a concept. I can't tell people 'look, I made an outrageous hat, so you can't make one'. He's known about me for two years, so why is he just now bringing it to my attention?  Plus I tried to send lots of business his way by mentioning him in one of my articles.  A good deed never goes unpunished I suppose.  I've had over a million hits on my Hubpage articles, so most people would be thrilled if I gave them a nod and said, 'Go see that guy, he's great." I certainly didn't mean him any harm. Two freeform hats are never exactly alike, so you can't run around saying 'you copied me.'

Small Loom Freeform Weaving

Today I went back to Joann's to get the weaving book I had spotted a few days ago. With coupon in hand I was on a mission. After more than 2 hours of looking through all their book racks I gave up. Evidently they have no way to tell if they've sold the book or which shelf it got reshelved on. I found the book on Amazon here: Small Loom Freeform Weaving so now that I know the actual title I can probably find it somewhere else, but it won't be 40% off. Or maybe I can look for it at another Joann's but I'm all shopped out for today.

Zentangle?

The two pens I used for these are Bic Mark It Fine Point Permanent Marker and Sharpie Ultra Fine Point Permanent Marker. I traced around a bowl to get the circle shape. I want to make some more today.

Freeform crochet

Yesterday and today I've been working on freeform crochet. I was hoping to make a video but the video gods are not cooperating.
