Train Crafts

Happy St. Patrick's Day. Even though it is an anti-pagan holiday, I still get a kick out of wearing green. I've noticed that in San Luis Obispo, CA, they celebrate holidays a lot more. I saw so many people wearing green, and it wasn't even night time yet, so I know they weren't just bar crawling. On the train I worked on my knitting, read some fiction, and recorded a new video. Then tonight after the grand kids went to bed, I started some Thunderbird beaded earrings. I grew up in New Mexico so I knew of the Thunderbird mythology. I asked my daughter which of the picture earrings she liked best so I could make her some, and she said she preferred designs without pictures, so so much for that idea.

I arrived to SLO safely by train but an hour and a half late.  This is why I don't trust the train to get me to work on time.  Luckily my gig isn't until tomorrow.

I made use of my time on the train by reading most of the 2nd book in the Hunger Games trilogy.  I also started knitting a shawl on double pointed needles that my friend Rebecca told me about. And I cut a bunch of photos out of a Vogue magazine that my friend Lynn gave me.  I want to make some fashion collages for my fashion blog. I used a blank composition book to organize the photos into categories such as Big Cats, zebra, Masculine/feminine, Romantic, sexy/alluring, hats, lace, and so on.  When I get enough items in each category I can make the  collage for that topic.

Now it's almost midnight so I should get some shut eye so I'm ready for tomorrow's event.  It will be fun I'm sure.

On The Train

The train trip was one of my best ever with spectacular views of the Pacific coastline at sunset with a wall of fog nested on the horizon.

I got half a baby cocoon finished in some pumpkin colored wool from Lion Brand before I ran out of yarn. I'm making is for a photographer to use for baby pictures.

Then I switched to knitting and continued on with a shrug I'm making. There is a lot of time for projects on a 6 hour train ride.

On the last bit of the journey I switched to wire weaving.  I'm making little wire pouches that I haven't debuted in my Etsy shops yet.  I'm looking forward to that.

So many projects, so little time.

Bus/Train

I think I finally have Halloween out of my system. I'm candied out, costumed out and tuckered out.
I'm still 300 miles from  home though. I'm looking forward to knitting on the train. I just hope it's not too crowded from the weekend travelers heading home on a Sunday afternoon. I've never taken the train on a Sunday before so we'll see how it goes. The train won't sell out but the bus might. Being crammed in a bus seat too narrow for my thighs for two hours isn't my idea of a fun time. So I'm hoping to get a empty pair of seats so I can work on crafts.
I have time to do some beadwork before leaving for the train. So I'm going to get on with that. The way the Amtrak works is sometimes it's half bus and half train, and that is the case this time. I'd rather take the train the whole way, but that only happens once a day and never seems to work into my schedule. So half and half it is.
